The DVB Project has announced the addition of the China-centric AVS3 codec to its core specifications, opening the door for new deployments in China. Coming only a few months after adding VVC, the DVB Project says work is continuing on adding AV1, despite AV1 being a finished codec for rather a lot longer than VVC. To some extent, the support for AVS3 in the DVB stack might be the second crack of the whip for AVS in the Chinese broadcast market.
