US content delivery vendor Lumen Technologies, formerly Level 3 Communications, has revealed some initial takeaways from measuring the energy impact of hybrid peer-assisted CDN technology. The results can be summarized best as a double-edged sword. Lumen’s blogpost begins by painting a picture around the environmental superiority of its proprietary Mesh Delivery product – based on peer-to-peer (P2P) networking – compared to traditional power-guzzling data centers.
