Warner Bros Discovery is forecasting that its US direct-to-consumer video streaming business will be profitable for 2023, after turning a $50 million EBITDA for its streaming unit in Q1, a $704 million year on year improvement. Do not be fooled by this smokescreen, however, as WBD is bleeding money, with group losses hitting $1.1 billion in the first quarter of this year. But first, the headline figures from WBD’s first quarter fling show D2C video subscribers reaching a global total of 97.6 million, after adding 1.5 million accounts in the last quarter.
