The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) is one step closer to getting the FCC to carry out its bidding, as Chair Jessica Rosenworcel has relented to pressure from the trade body to accelerate the transition to ATSC 3.0 across the US – sanctioning “permissive” use of the next-generation broadcast TV standard. The latest FCC report, released late last week, details changes to NextGen TV rules designed to preserve OTA TV viewers’ access to the widest possible range of programming while supporting broadcasters’ transition to the standard.
