Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), the Sony wing which brought us the PlayStation, is acquiring video deep learning specialist iSize for an undisclosed sum. With SIE a force in the gaming realm, the deal reaffirms that streaming is as much about gaming as it is about movies, TV series, and sports. Terms of the deal have not been announced, and unfortunately iSize management are contractually blocked from briefing Faultline on the intricacies of the deal. SIE management declined the offer of interview, and so this is likely the last we will hear of iSize, until SIE eventually makes a public display about a breakthrough in machine learning algorithms to improve the quality of Sony streaming experiences.
