While a triumvirate of US media heavyweights govern the sports narrative with plans for a multiparty streaming service (see separate story), parallel disruption in direct-to-consumer sports is afoot over the pond in Europe. Unlike the Superbowl feeding frenzy that is stirring anti-competition qualms in the US, this has a more philanthropic feel – at least superficially. This air of altruism comes from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which has relaunched its Eurovision Sport video platform as a totally free-to-air (FTA) direct-to-consumer live and on-demand streaming service.
