The FCC, the US spectrum regulator, may soon regain its authority to conduct spectrum auctions – just over a year after this failed to be renewed following an impasse in the US Senate. This reprieve will happen if a bill just introduced by two US senators, John Thune and Ted Cruz, is passed by the three relevant legislative parties, the US Senate, US Congress and President Joe Biden. This would free up 1,250 MHz of spectrum between 1.3 GHz and 13.2 GHz, including frequencies previously unsold and some returned to the regulator, which had been lying in limbo for a year.
