Five years ago this week… The SRT Alliance celebrated its second anniversary, growing to include over 200 members, including Microsoft, Harmonic, MediaKind, Synamedia, The Kudelski Group, as well as founders Haivision and Wowza. The group still had some way to go to establish SRT across the video ecosystem rather than contribution of the “first mile”, where it had gained the most traction. This ambition to cover the whole video path from creation to consumption relies on enabling efficient routing of streams within the cloud. Inevitably given the alliance’s membership, this has meant collaborating with Microsoft Azure through its then-emerging platform called SRTHub, rather than other major cloud providers like Amazon.
