J:Com, Japan’s incumbent cable TV operator, is experimenting with a cute and fluffy new platform which will exclusively stream animal content from the country’s zoos and aquariums. The idea itself—called Ikimono Watch (Animal Watch)—is unremarkable, but more disruptive is what lies under the hood – with US video software specialist Brightcove getting a foot in the door at J:Com.
