While now mostly harmonized, following the anti-climactic strategic review of the video division, Harmonic’s video executives are still concerned about the health of the TV industry in general – at the mercy of factors outside of the San Jose-based company’s control. At IBC 2024, Harmonic was hitting all the right buttons, embodying two of Faultline’s tectonic trends from the show—JPEG XS and server-side ad insertion (SSAI)—as part of Harmonic’s ongoing transition to a unified software platform. We are told that Harmonic’s investments in ad insertion are not yet paying dividends, but the company is banking on success from SSAI deployments, namely in sports deployments, as part of its strategic 3-year plan.
