It was inevitable that some attributes of beleaguered CDN company Edgio would be sucked up by Akamai, and late last week the larger rival confirmed that it won the bidding auction to acquire select assets from Edgio. The 363 bankruptcy sale deal, for an undisclosed amount, will see Akamai inherit non-exclusive license rights to Edgio’s full patent portfolio, as well as absorb customer contracts pertaining to delivery and security, which is sure to irk some long-standing Edgio customers which have so far avoided doing business with Akamai.
