The good news for the content ecosystem is that there is now one less major pirate syndicate in operation, after a pan-European effort resulted in what is being described as the dismantling of the world’s largest ever transnational criminal organization involved in the illegal redistribution of IPTV services. The bad news is that we are no closer to knowing which specific technologies aided law enforcement authorities in dismantling a Europe-based pirate operation which reportedly served illicit streams to some 22 million users worldwide—generating a staggering €3 billion ($3.16 billion) annually.
