Rethink TV has charted the shape of operating systems in operators’ set top fleets, as well as the installed base of Smart TVs and Connected TV devices (CTVs). Plotted against the decline of traditional pay TV homes, Android TV is forecast to surge in popularity, while the legacy Linux-based installed base will decline sharply. Meanwhile, Huawei’s HarmonyOS, an operating system of national importance, will take hold in both TVs and set tops, in areas where Huawei holds court. The first step in compiling this new report was updating pay TV projections, which began with manually counting the past decade’s performance in North America.
