UK-based video compression vendor V-Nova came out celebrating deep into last week following the success of an LCEVC-enhanced stream for the recent 2023 Carnival festivities taking place across Brazil. With Brazilian broadcaster Globo achieving approximately 40% bandwidth savings using the low complexity enhancement video codec, compared to the AVC-only stream, it all seemed too clean and too neat to be true. That is partly explained by this being a free trial; a successful one at that and an important milestone in the LCEVC hockey stick, but a trial nonetheless.
