Indian SVoD platform Zee5 has pulled out of neighboring Bangladesh without warning. The surprise exit is reportedly part of cost-saving measures being implemented by parent company Zee Entertainment, appearing to send alarm bells ringing that the merger with Sony Pictures Network India is failing, already. It has been clear ever since the mega-merger was first proposed in Q4 2021 that Zee has been in an uncomfortable state of flux. The gaze of investors has been drawn towards riches in North America, while Zee5 faces an uphill battle against content pirates.
