Apple needs to think bigger than MGM, should target Sony (again)

Apple could be about to dust off its check book in a most uncharacteristic move by splashing $billions on MGM Studios, according to another recent round of de ja vu reports. The fact that Netflix’s name has been thrown into the ring alongside Apple’s as a potential buyer of MGM assets virtually renders these rumors redundant. Still though, the elephant in the room is that Apple desperately needs content. If true, CEO Tim Cook clearly has a short memory. When Apple TV+ launched in November, he described the debut video streaming service as different from anything else out there.
