The artist formerly known as Avago has unveiled a heap of new Broadcom data center gadgetry. Most intriguing is a Video Offload Accelerator that has VP9, AV1, and HEVC support in silicon, but in typical hyperscale fashion, Broadcom has not responded to our enquiries. To this end, knowing what the Video Offload Accelerator actually looks like is difficult, as the announcement features no links to resources that might tell us more. This is an all-too-familiar problem in such announcements – one that is unlikely to be learned any time soon.
