It looks like the stakes are rising in the British Telecom patent infringement case where it is defending itself against ASSIA, in a case presided over by the UK court of appeals. BT has now switched off its “RAMBo” (Rate Adaptive Management Box) which provides dynamic line management to optimize broadband speeds. The alternative was to pay £250,000 ($394,000) a week, an amount requested by ASSIA and agreed as reasonable by the court, if only as an advance against final damages. That number is based on 10% of the rental revenue on the infringing broadband lines, which is likely to be higher than the level at which damages will eventually be set.
