John Malone’s Liberty Global empire has just gotten a little bigger, after the company stumped up $5.3 billion in stock and cash to acquire quad-play provider Cable & Wireless and its 6 million subscribers – found primarily in the Caribbean, Panama, Monaco, and the Seychelles. The move continues the Liberty Global strategy of acquiring networks, building them as an asset, and then later selling them off to a strong incumbent – in this case, maybe someone like America Movil, or local rival Digicel.
