Nokia’s plans to purchase US-based virtual CCAP start-up Gainspeed could see the Finnish firm become a major force in the US cable industry, and for some reason the likes of Cisco and Arris allowed it to happen. We think Gainspeed’s patented technology must have something special to have caught the attention of Nokia, and perhaps a tier 1 US account such as Comcast pushed Gainspeed towards Cisco and Arris because it wouldn’t buy directly from a smaller company. If that is the case, expect a tier 1 order shortly for Gainspeed technology at Nokia.
