Cable entertainment major AMC Networks might just have bagged the bargain of the year in buying RLJ Entertainment, an OTT video company focused on British and Urban content, even at a 47% premium. AMC Networks, majority owned by the Dolan family (of Cablevision fame), has secured an additional niche slice of the US SVoD scene with a cash offer in the region of $65 million for an undisclosed volume of RLJ’s outstanding common stock – in turn inheriting Acorn TV and UMC (Urban Movie Channel) which together have grown subscribers by 45% in a year to reach 800,000 US subscribers.
