SVoD rejoiced last week as Disney+ registered 73.7 million subscribers on its first birthday, while many brushed over the fact September 2020 was the most successful month on record for ESPN streaming video. Revenue improvements in the cable and broadcasting segments were also among the more surprising trends from Disney’s latest quarter and full year financial report. Despite a tough year for live sports, ESPN+ recovered strongly by closing out October 2020 with 10.7 million paid subscribers – more than double the 3.5 million ESPN+ subs registered a year earlier.
