Gracenote has a new TV dataset to display at IBC 2024. The Nielsen-owned metadata specialist has unveiled Watch Prompts, a tool that presents viewers with “interesting facts” in the content discovery process. Our first issue here is an obvious one, concerning the subjectivity of what might be interpreted as an interesting fact about a TV show or movie by one viewer, might be seen as a benign statement by another viewer – varying wildly based on viewer preferences. Obviously, the Gracenote boffins have thought of that. This is why Watch Prompts is paired with the company’s existing viewer preference and consumption behavior data – ultimately designed to influence viewer decisionmaking and increase audience viewing time.
