Theo Technologies, best known as co-founder of the High Efficiency Stream Protocol (HESP), has succumbed to the gravitational pull of Dolby Labs – which has acquired the Belgian playback software developer for an undisclosed sum. Dolby will seek to merge technologies behind two contrasting low-latency streaming protocols, HESP and WebRTC, with Theo Technologies set to be infused with Dolby’s Millicast division, the WHIP (WebRTC-HTTP Ingestion Protocol) specialist acquired by Dolby in 2022 also for a retracted amount.
