British Telecom has secured the first partner for its embryonic cost-saving content delivery project, MAUD (Multicast-Assisted Unicast Delivery) – which is effectively a method of dealing with the mass migration to unicast delivery. CDN provider Edgio is the inaugural guinea pig, which has the honor of taking MAUD from concept to real-world application. Edgio, now the world’s first and only MAUD-enabled CDN, is not the final boss in this fight. MAUD needs a lot more—and a lot bigger—advocates before the technology (and more importantly the business case) can officially take flight.
