While the focus has been on reinstating net neutrality and rewriting Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, one of the toughest early tasks for acting FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel is sorting out the country’s messy media ownership rules – something the commission has been trying and failing to do for the best part of two decades. Unfortunately, Rosenworcel has had a less than ideal start in that department. The US Supreme Court has just upheld Trump-era changes to media ownership rules, which by law are required to be reviewed every four years, with repeals next due in 2022.
