At the latest behind-closed-doors MPEG meeting, a group of technology companies with major sway in the video codec space submitted a proposal to the Joint Video Experts Team (JVET) for a successor to VVC (Versatile Video Coding – H.266). While we refer to the future heir as H.267, official MPEG documentation focuses on use of Enhanced Compression Model (ECM) software as an anchor in tests to evaluate enhanced compression tools beyond VVC capability.
