At HBO Max’s European debut, a lot of words were spoken, but not a lot was said. The production values of this press event were industry leading, but the content was underwhelming. Entirely pre-recorded, there was not even a whiff of a Q&A session, and ending with a trailer for the new Game of Thrones prequel felt like a somewhat rubbish virtual goodie-bag. The launch event was very shiny, but the lack of any chance to ask questions has left a sour taste in the mouth. Teasing a launch event that could have just been a YouTube video was irksome.
