Faultline’s sister research service, Rethink TV, has published its latest forecast, charting the shape of the operating system war in operator set tops, smart TVs, and connected TV devices (CTVs). The headline findings are that Huawei’s previous potential dominance has been cut off at the knees, with HarmonyOS now limited essentially to APAC, and mostly China. This is good news for Android TV, which is expected to surge, but the declining set top market will see some growth for RDK – a challenger that is strong in North America, and has suffered a blow in Europe, via Vodafone’s decision to pursue Android TV Operator Tier instead.
