Many broadcasters believe that owning their own content metadata—and therefore being able to pull the strings of content discovery at the highest quality—is critical for broadcasters to survive in the digital future. One of those is British broadcaster ITV, which has previously hounded metadata maestro Gracenote for not offering enough control over metadata, which the Nielsen-owned company has said it would be addressing.
