Mindful of economic instability and soaring costs, content providers are on the prowl for any technology, product, or service that can help trim the fat in every department imaginable, no matter how fine the margins. There are suggestions that this is coming at the sacrifice of quality – as marginal improvements in picture quality drop down the pecking order for budget-holders. Traffic at the Ultra HD Forum was at a record low, for instance. Garish OLED panels and VR headset demos were in short order.
