Figures published this week claim that by 2018 Netflix will have more international subscribers than domestic, and by 2020 its international subscriber base will hit 75 million, according to research firm IHS Markit. While we at Faultline agree that Netflix is certain to succeed internationally, we can’t help but notice IHS has missed some important details that suggest its domestic market isn’t one that has reached saturation just yet. Taking a look back at Netflix’s enormous subscriber growth over such a short period, particularly overseas, reminded us of how its expansion is nothing short of miraculous – from 1.8 million international subscribers in 2011 to 36 million at the end of June this year.
