Faultline recently examined the reception of OTT TV shows, on a hunch that algorithms have been driving development at the expense of lasting cultural significance. This time round, we have looked at movies, from Netflix, Disney, and HBO, to see if any concrete comparisons can be made. Starting by looking at the movies in isolation, we again chose thirteen dramas, dating back to 2019. The selection criteria was mostly based on titles recognized from our news duties, but Netflix has put out a surprising number of titles that ring absolutely no bells, thanks to its immense international content budget.
