Five years ago this week… The European Commission slapped Google with an anti-trust complaint, putting it in the tough spot that had previously been graced by IBM, Microsoft and Intel. It looked as though no matter how hard Google wriggled, it would have to end its practise of offering cash incentives to OEMs and operators who used the Android OS and its apps, and remove blocks from operators offering rival technology. If Google violated these conditions, it faced maximum fines of 10% of its revenue – around $7.4 billion at the time.
