Five years ago this week… Facebook crowned itself the world’s poorest judge of timing, launching its Portal and Portal+ video communication devices right after the Cambridge Analytica scandal where private data from tens of millions of accounts was bought by the British data firm to build voter profiles. The devices, more akin to a smart speaker, would be powered by Amazon’s smart assistant Alexa.
