One of Quickplay’s first moves since canning the Firstlight Media brand two months ago is a push to bring more value to AVoD and FAST (free ad-supported streaming TV) services. The Canadian vendor has integrated its cloud-native CMS with media fingerprinting technology from Vionlabs, a name we know as an AI-based content analysis specialist. The combination of products claims to be able to produce video descriptors without requiring any traditional content metadata fields. Does that mean bad news for Gracenote and co?
