We are not sure what Roku President Charlie Collier was smoking before taking the stage at Streaming Media NYC 2024, but the keynote cameo marked a return to old habits of duopoly delusions for the streaming device slinger. The familiar Windows/Mac and iOS/Android analogies reared their ugly heads again, as Collier collared the conference audience into a future where Roku rules the connected TV device landscape – sharing the spoils with one other TV OS winner (not mentioned by name, but obviously Google). Of course, one could argue that in the US market, the TV OS duopoly is already very real, with Roku and Google boasting a combined market share of approximately 80%.
