Earlier this week, FCC chairman Ajit Pai seemed to experience an about turn on the subject of US broadcaster Sinclair buying Tribune and ending up with control of local news to around 72% of Americans. Sinclair is widely understood to have been instrumental in Donald Trump’s presidential success, with senior management and ultimately the controlling Smith family, telling employees to push the Trump agenda throughout the election. The understanding was that in return Donald Trump would allow the owners of Sinclair to bypass the 39% rule in buying out Tribune.
