Telstra Broadcast Services (TBS), the B2B wing of the Australian telco, has rescued managed media services firm MediaCloud from the ashes of its parent company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, in an acquisition for an undisclosed amount. Making the announcement during a live press event this week, Andreas Eriksson, Head of TBS, said MediaCloud’s specialized skills in cloud-based systems for media and broadcasting equips TBS with everything from media management to playout, as well as the critical internet-based delivery piece of the puzzle. Crucially, the purchase also gives TBS ownership of a dedicated master control room based in London, handing over the keys to assets for supporting major global sports organizations, which is really the overbearing driver behind the deal.
