For streaming platform provider Twitch, AV1 is what the company sees as an “enabling technology” with the “best potential” of all next-generation video codecs. Of course, as a subsidiary of Amazon – a founding member of the Alliance for Open Media (AOM) AV1 patent pool – Twitch is obliged to say that. At the same time, however, Twitch also feels obliged to play neutral by pretending there is a need for more than one brick in the future codec wall.
