Verizon has done the unthinkable by unbundling video and broadband services – a move the US MNO sees as a serious cable industry disruptor. Verizon execs patted each other on the back this week for a job well done and proceeded to put their feet up to watch the resultant mass migration of subs from cable TV to Fios. Despite what Verizon’s marketing team might think, unbundling is not a phenomenon new to 2020. Verizon has been backed into a corner and left with little choice but to adapt to consumer demand, a scenario which hasn’t been helped by Verizon’s woeful track record in video.
