Low Latency DOCSIS (LLD) slipped under the radar out of CableLabs mid-way through 2019 so quietly that only the big-name operators and vendors involved noticed, yet it is now being positioned as a key step towards high performance video-centric applications that require both high capacity and minimal delay. Perhaps CableLabs did not wish to sow yet more confusion at a time when the low latency field was oozing with fresh protocols. We have covered many before but failed to give LLD its full due or explain quite why the cable community felt yet another low latency protocol was required.
