Digital security group Nagra published a peculiar press release this week, announcing the launch of a broadband-based platform for the movie theater industry, set to make its debut at CinemaCon in Las Vegas towards the end of April. Essentially Nagra has revealed its entrance into the content business, while promising to revolutionize the cinema as we know it. The platform, called myCinema, is not a new technology as such, but a content marketplace, or a “Content as a Service” offering, Nagra told us, streaming alternate movies and live events to the big screen.
