Technicolor slipped out a stunner of an announcement just as Faultline went to press last week, releasing the Google Broadcast Stack onto Technicolor CPE to slash the Android TV Operator Tier full-fat deployment process from a typical 18 months, down to 9 months – in turn greatly reducing costs tied to deploying a large number of hybrid devices. What we find just as astonishing, is that a whole week later, still not a single outlet has given this announcement the coverage it needs – and deserves. First and foremost, this is troublesome news for set top and middleware vendors with broadcast software stacks developed in-house with proprietary functions.
