Comcast has another thing coming if it thinks X1 can simply barge into the smart TV sector and send existing technology stacks packing. That’s the plan anyway, according to CEO Brian Roberts, who confirmed rumors of a Comcast smart TV incursion during a Goldman Sachs virtual conference this week. Comcast has had great success in licensing the RDK-based X1 video platform to cable TV operators throughout North America, but dangling a carrot in front of service providers with nothing to lose is a very different prospect from licensing that same carrot to an industry proud to be free of operator influence.
