NAB is to ATSC 3.0 what the mythical titan Atlas was to the celestial heavens. With the April event canned, ATSC 3.0’s first projected commercial launches in Spring 2020 now look dubious and the ramifications for the technology and associated companies could be catastrophic. It comes at the worst possible time for those in the ATSC 3.0 game, just as the technology was gathering momentum. Several vendors have released pre-NAB press releases teasing product launches and updates relating to the US hybrid broadcast-IP standard, which now goes under the consumer-friendly moniker of NextGen TV.
